Activities at the chalet
Outdoor winter
Ice skating
Bring your skates or rent skates to enjoy North Hatley Park. Or head to Magog to skate on the shores of Lake Memphremagog, then walk over for a cup of coffee or hot chocolate at Restaurant Koz. An excellent Mediterranean restaurant to discover.
Ice hockey
Whether you’re an ice hockey fan or not, North Hatley Park has a field hockey rink. On most sunny days, you’ll find teammates ready to make a few passes or organize a friendly game by separating the field hockey sticks in the middle of the ice, just like when we were kids. Yes, they still do! The field hockey rink offers two goals, usually in good condition, for practising your shots and having a little friendly competition.
Street field hockey
Because winter weather in North Hatley (and everywhere else) is so unpredictable, and more and more often the temperature rises and falls, making it almost impossible to manage the rink, the chalet is equipped with “cosom” type field hockey sticks, suitable for the little ones but fun for the big ones. You have 12 sticks, including two goalie sticks and two street field hockey goals. Go behind the chalet, up the hill from the elementary school and play safely and enjoyably from the top.
Ice fishing
We have ice-fishing equipment available if you wish. Please note that ice fishing carries a high risk of serious injury or death. You can ask for ice fishing equipment to be provided. It’s essential to know the thickness of the ice before going out. Always be very vigilant if you want to go out on the lake in winter. Buy ground glasses at the general store to increase your chances of success. Artificial lures build patience.
Fish le camp offers ice fishing equipment rentals such as:
Tent for 4 to 6 people.
6 fishing rods.
Artificial lures.
Auger for drilling holes in the ice.
Panoptix Livescope.
Family tobogganing 2 steps from the chalet
Two small sleds are available for sliding. Go behind the chalet and you’ll find an elementary school at the top of the hill. There’s a sliding slope in the schoolyard. When the ground is hard enough, you can even slide on your buttocks!
Winter sauna on Lake Massawippi
Just opposite the chalet, you’ll find the Solstice company offering a winter sauna with safe swimming in the lake (under their supervision). The cost for 2 hours is $34 per person. Reservations can be made on their website https://solsticesauna.com/
Spa at Manoir Hovey
For luxury hens, you can head to Manoir Hovey, a château relay, which boasts a magnificent lakeside spa as well.Obviously, the experience is that of a luxury spa.You can even end your day at the Tap Room (pub) or make a reservation at the manor’s restaurant (2 Michelin stars). The Taproom is well worth a visit, especially in summer, as you can eat on the terrace, which in our opinion is the best view of the lake.
Summer outdoors
Fishing on the federal wharf
In front of the cottage is a wharf that people call “federal” because it belonged to the government until it was given to the municipality (unfortunately, which is trying to use it for pecuniary purposes). So grab a few fishing rods and the safe in the shed, go buy some ground glasses at the general store. A simple glass of ground will ensure a few good catches on the dock for all to enjoy.
Fishing on the lake
You can ask Florent Hébert or the Fish le camp company for an outing on Lake Massawippi. Discover the 15 km-long lake and places where you’ll find depths of over 300 feet. Many species of fish, including lake trout, smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, sunfish and smelt. These companies offer you a safe boat that can move quickly around the lake to find good fishing spots. All equipment is supplied. You’ll need to pick up your fishing license at the general store. Normally, ask for a family permit, so that everyone living at the same address can fish under the same permit.
Mont Scowen hike
Hike to Lake Massawippi
Picnic at sunset in a kayak or paddle board
Go there for a simple drink to appreciate the beauty of the Manoir and Lake Massawippi. Be sure to book in advance, as this is a very popular spot.60 evening and $85 daytime per person. The price is very comparable to anywhere else. The East Bolton spa offers lower prices during the day.
Grab your rolling rack, jacket and paddle and head downstream just in front of the chalet to enjoy the lake. You can head for the bridge to navigate the river. Bring a snack for a sunset picnic.
Stargazing by kayak or paddle board
As night falls, grab your rolling rack, jacket and paddle and head downstream just in front of the cottage to take advantage of the lake’s darkness and open space for stargazing. ATTENTION: Take a flashlight and make sure it’s working properly, as motorboats can’t see you on the lake. The lamp allows you to signal your presence.
Kayak trout fishing
Grab the rolling rack, your jacket and your paddle and head down just in front of the cottage to enjoy the lake and its many species of fish. My best tip for catching lake trout is to use a jig-type lure with a smelt imitation. Drop to the very bottom of the lake where you feel your line drop for at least 10 seconds. To know you’re at the bottom of the lake, your fishing line will twist and stop coming out of your reel. Close the reel, reel up one or two turns and then drop down (without opening the reel) to touch the bottom. Repeat to touch bottom and come back up. Your line twists and straightens. You’re now fishing with a jig. You’re lucky enough to catch a nice trout of over 6-7 lbs. Even if you don’t have a jig to catch your fish, let it get very tired and bring it closer to your boat, take a picture and unhook it. Don’t keep it, the rules are strict on lake trout.
Bass fishing from a kayak
Grab the rolling rack, your jacket and your paddle and head down just in front of the cottage to enjoy the lake and its many species of fish, including smallmouth bass. You can catch bass over 4 lbs quite often.
My best tip for catching bass is to use a single hook on a split shot rig. IMAGE You’ll probably catch some nice yellow perch and sunfish too.
Picnic by kayak or paddle board
If you’re taking a plastic paddle board, two of you can take it down, each with a handle in hand. Grab your flotation jackets and paddle. Obviously, it’s more pleasant to paddle when the lake is calm. Rest assured, the wind dies down almost every day around 6.00 p.m. during the summer.
Wood fire with roasted marshmallows and hot dog sausage
The backyard is equipped with a safe, enclosed fire pit. You’ll find logs, kindling and firelighters on the outside counter or in the first drawer of the ground-floor kitchen.
It’s essential to buy marshmallows from the general store just one building away from the chalet. You’ll find sticks in the first kitchen drawer as you enter on your right on the first floor. Once your fire is lit, wait for a nice ember to appear before placing your marshmallows or hotdogs. Place them gently on the coals according to your preferred cooking method.
Make “smorse” with Leclerc cookies
A secret: buy Leclerc cookies at the general store (grocery or supermarket). Toast your marshmallow and place it between two Leclerc cookies. Enjoy!
Spa
Relax in the spa during the day or evening with a beer or a good glass of wine. Make sure you bring a bottle of water, and drink 2x as much water as alcohol, because you’ll get dehydrated and have quite a headache the next day. It doesn’t cost much to drink water at the same time to ensure a pleasant day the next day. Please do not bring glass bottles or glasses other than those provided in the entrance wardrobe. You can bring cans without any problem.
If you’re staying at the chalet for several days, take the time to refill your chlorine tablets after you’ve finished relaxing. You’ll find them in the cupboard on the ground-floor terrace.
Grilling on the BBQ
Treat yourself to a delicious barbecue. There are three, one on the ground floor, one on the second-floor balcony and one on the terrace. All are excellent Napoleon BBQs, quick to heat up and capable of reaching very high temperatures. If ever the BBQ doesn’t seem to be working, it’s connected to a valve at the back, not to a tank as you’re no doubt used to. If you’re short of meat, go to the general store next door and ask at reception for some. Chances are the butcher will be able to cut you a few good cuts. You won’t see them in the counter.
Once you’ve finished, brush off any excess food grease. Be sure to close your BBQ tightly.
Washers game
A very simple game in a wooden box. You open the box and stand about 20 feet or 20 steps away to help yourself. If things are really bad, move closer. The aim is to play in teams of two against two. You have to throw into the box that gives 1 point or into the circle of the box that gives 3 points. The first team to reach 21 points wins and gets to play another team!
Swimming on the federal wharf
The wharf in front of the chalet remains a public area accessible 24-7. There’s a ladder for ascent. So you can swim and climb up to the dock on your right (or left if you’re in the lake). By late June, the water is over 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Bring a beach towel. Please don’t bring bath towels. Bring a flotation jacket if you’re not comfortable in the water. You can also bring the big water mat in the backyard. You’ll be able to relax and jump back into the water to cool off.
Petanque tournament with friends
The chalet has 2 sets of pétanque boules and cochonnet. You can form 2 teams to take turns in a friendly competition. You can go to the elementary school located behind the chalet at the top of the hill. There you’ll find a flat playing field. Avoid playing on a slope 😉
The game of pétanque is based on a points system. In turn, each player, feet together, throws his or her ball, without a run-up, onto the court. For each throw, the players are positioned from a circle drawn on the ground. When the number 13 is reached, the player or team wins the game.
All balls are counted. The best-placed balls closest to the jack score points. If, for example, you’re playing head-to-head and only one of your balls is well placed, it earns you 1 point in the lead. If two of your balls are well placed, you win 2 points.
The next lead can begin. The game ends when the player (or team) has reached 13 points by positioning his or her balls as well as possible in each end. Points are displayed on a pocket or wall-mounted petanque scoreboard. The game ends with the competition, or can be restarted with a rematch between friends.
Spikeball competition between friends
Two spikeball games for a little competition between friends. The rules are simple: the aim of the game is to bounce the ball over the net in such a way that the opposing team is unable to return it. A team can make up to three contacts to return the ball to the net. Once the ball is on the net, it’s the other team’s turn to play. A good place to play is on the grass court just in front of the clubhouse to the right of the federal wharf. Alternatively, you can head to the back of the chalet, where you’ll find an elementary school with a nice hill to climb. Go up and play spikeball. It’s good for everyone! If you feel like seeing more people, head to North Hatley Park near the marina. There’s a large soccer field where you’ll have plenty of room to play.
Finnish molkky bowling
Two sets of molkky skittles are available for a little competition. The games are in black bags in the shed at the back. They are numbered pieces of wood. You have to throw from a distance of 10 to 15 feet. When you knock down a single pin, your score is the one written on the pin, and if you knock down several pins, your score is one point per pin knocked down.
Once a pin has been knocked down, it is lifted up just where it stands, without being lifted. In this way, over the course of the game, the pins scatter and move away.
The first team to reach exactly 50 wins. If a team exceeds 50, it automatically falls back to 25.
Swimming at the beach opposite
You can go to the field just in front of the chalet, to the right of the federal concrete dock. This land belongs to an organization called “Protection du lac Massawippi”, which normally lets people access the lake free of charge, despite all the privatization to which the non-riparian population is subjected. You’ll find a path leading to the lake with a bench. You can swim there. Ideally, wear water shoes to avoid sensitivity to the rocks.
Fondue on the terrace as the sun sets
Head up to the rooftop for a sunset fondue with friends. Even in summer, fondue is a fun way to get together for dinner. Electricity and extensions are available on the roof. There’s a fondue dish on the first floor and another on the second floor for everyone to enjoy. Why not add a raclette stove for grilling vegetables, cheeses and meats in the open air?
Raclette on the terrace overlooking Lake Massawippi
Two raclette pans are available for 16 people.Obviously, this is not the cheese raclette that the French and Swiss make. It’s a griddle where vegetables, cheese and meat are grilled.I think the Europeans call it “raclounette” or “grillades”.
It doesn’t matter, just gather bread, mayonnaise sauces in different flavors, pieces of meat, sausages, cheese and vegetables and grill them on the griddle with friends.
Play tennis at the public beach
Please note: despite the beauty and appeal of the tennis courts right next to the chalet, they are private and belong to the North Hatley Private Tennis Club. So avoid playing there at all costs, especially as it’s clay and once you step on it, you spoil the fun for the next players. Don’t worry, the public courts are 700 meters away, just long enough to walk and chat with your family. You’ll be provided with 4 adult and 4 children’s tennis rackets and balls. If you run out of balls, they’re available at the general store next door.So you’ll be playing tennis on North Hatley’s public beach. If you go after 6 p.m., you don’t have to pay. However, before 6 p.m., you have to pay $5 to $10 per person. Yes, it’s a bit steep to play tennis in a public park… But you do have access to the beach. Go and have a drink after tennis!
Summer and winter interiors
Karaoke
The chalet is equipped with a karaoke machine with two microphones. You can connect your phone directly to the machine via Bluetooth or directly to the device.Project the lyrics on the TV screen or via the projector in the kitchen cupboard.
Pizza party (electric)
The chalet features a small, almost magical electric oven for making pizzas that taste just like the wood-burning stove. What’s more, the oven cooks your pizzas in just a few minutes. Prepare your pizza dough (don’t make too many pizzas in advance or they may stick). Chop your ingredients: peppers, mushrooms, artichokes, olives, bacon, sausage, etc. Grate lots of cheese and turn yourself into a North Hatley pizzeria. One pizza at a time, cut it with the pizza cutters available in the chalet. Pass out pizza slices to your friends and enjoy a whole evening’s entertainment. The aim isn’t for everyone to eat their own pizza, the aim is for everyone to make a pizza for the others to taste. Be original! Vote for the best pizza.
Poker night
The chalet has two poker decks, so you can play two groups at the same time. You can play with up to 10 players. Split into two groups of 8 players or 7 and a dealer on each if you have volunteer dealers. All you need is a pack of 52 cards (remove the jokers) and chips to distribute equally to each player.
Each chip color represents an amount of money. So, if you deal 5 reds, 10 whites and 20 blues, if the reds are worth $1,000, the whites $500 and the blues $100, you’re each dealing $12,000. Next, consult the poker rules, which seem complex but are simple. Practice makes perfect.

Game of dumplings with friends
The chalet has paper and scissors as well as pencils to get your dumpling game started. Basically, take a large plastic bowl from the cupboard and cut a sheet of paper into small pieces, where you can write a name on it. So, not too big!
Ideally, you should have two teams, or more if you like.
Each participant is given 3 or 4 pieces of paper and a pencil to write names on. Keep it simple – the names on the paper should be familiar to everyone. We often use character names such as prime minister, cartoonist, etc. Each person writes 3-4 names on the paper, then makes a paper ball with it and drops it into the plastic bowl.
Once all the balls are in the dish, the first team starts the game. The opposing team or a designated referee starts a 60-second timer. A player from the team starting the timer takes a dumpling, opens it and has to guess the name written on it. Once the time is up, it’s the opposing team’s turn to do the same. Points are scored according to the number of names guessed by each team. Of course, the opposing team must not tell their opponents the answers.
We proceed in 3 or 4 rounds
1- We make them become by saying all the possible words except the words written on the papers.
2- Mime the name on the paper.
3- You can only say one word, a word that’s not on the paper.
4- The chalet has a whiteboard and pencils. You can add to step 3, draw me a picture.
So, the team member must draw what represents the name written on his pellet. No words.
In the event that the team making the guess finishes a period (1,2,3) before the end of the timer and there are no more dumplings left in the bowl, we must pause the time and give them this remaining time for the next round.
IMPORTANT
No additional lip movement, otherwise the team member is automatically disqualified without finishing the time.
If the team member pronounces the word written on the pellet, the game automatically passes to the other team without finishing the time.
A team member who does not know the name written on the pellet cannot pass. He must try to make the team discover it in every possible way, sometimes by breaking down the name in a different way.

Table field hockey tournament
Foosball or table soccer tournament
You have a professional foosball table in the basement. You have two types of ball: plastic and cork. The cork ball is slower, making it easier for everyone to play. What’s more, it comes to rest more easily under players. The game consists of 3 rounds of 5 points each to win a match. A point is scored when a team enters the ball in the opponent’s goal. A two-point difference is required for a 5th leg, with a maximum of eight points.
Darts tournament
Arcade competition
Bowling for kids or adults!
The chalet has a wooden bowling alley and a long corridor on the first floor. Organize teams and have a bowling competition. Now, don’t get too excited about throwing the balls with all your might – it’s an indoor game.
